Raiders Complete Roster With Free Agents

San Francisco Chronicle : The Raiders signed seven undrafted free agents after the NFL draft, finalizing their roster for this weekend’s mandatory minicamp.

Before you dismiss the chances of these post-draft pickups making the roster, keep in mind three starters last season were undrafted out of college: ninth-year left guard Barry Sims, defensive tackle Tommy Kelly and return specialist Chris Carr.

Here’s the next batch of hopefuls:

Josh Shotwell, LB, Cal Poly: The weakside linebacker is only 6-foot-1 and 235 pounds, but his smarts, speed and sure tackling nabbed him the Division I-AA Defensive Player of the Year honor. He also was the leading tackler in the East-West Shrine Game.

Chris McFoy, WR, USC: A reserve most of his career, the 6-2, 200-pounder is reunited with Raiders coach Lane Kiffin, his co-offensive coordinator at USC last year. He was the team’s top blocking receiver but missed action with a shoulder injury.

Eddie Keele, LT, BYU: He missed much of last season with a torn ACL. With a knee brace, he ran 40 meters in 5.08 seconds — impressive for a 6-5, 305-pounder coming off a major knee injury.

Kenny Patton, CB, Hawaii: Here’s another prospect coming off an injury-plagued senior season, in his case, a broken collarbone. In a game against USC, Patton intercepted a fade pattern intended for Dwayne Jarrett. The memory seems to have stayed with Kiffin.

Larry Brown, DT, Oklahoma State: The junior college All-American is a 6-3, 295-pound cog at nose guard. He has some similarities to former Raiders defensive lineman Ted Washington.

Marquice Cole, CB, Northwestern: Cole also was a punt-return specialist. His 4.35-second time in the 40 at a pro day was impressive, but scouting reports note a history of nagging injuries.

J.J. Milan, LB, Nevada: At 6-5, 265 pounds, he doubled as a long snapper and made the All-Western Athletic Conference team as a senior. He missed his junior season with a foot injury.
